A FUDGE RPG

I have always enjoyed the world of pulps, whether the writings of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Jules Verne or Haggard, Tarzan, Charlie Chan and Jules Verne movies, or The Shadow radio plays.  I have always wanted to run an RPG in a Pulp setting.  Part of the problem has always been finding players who are also interested in the period and who are good at staying in character during the game.  A PBeM setting seems perfect for this.

I will be using FUDGE for this game as it allows plenty of adaptability for character creation and its structure is well suited for PBeM.  If you are not familiar with the system, the earlier link will allow you to download a basic overview of the rules, or I can create one from your description.  The character himself, not the stats are the important thing.

I will not be using any character "classes" per se, but here are a few of the typical archetypes:

These basic archetypes can be combined and many other characters can exist, obviously.  If you have a good character concept, I will find a way to fit it in.

For players who will be creating their own characters, here are some of the details for character creation.

We will be using these attributes.  All start at Fair and characters get 2 free attribute levels at character creation.  Additional attribute levels may be gained by lowering other attributes.

A character may choose two free gifts during character creation.  Here is a list of gifts, but if you have your own, I will certainly consider it.  A fault can be chosen, as a trade-off for an additional gift, or to swap for other traits.  Here is a list of faults, but feel free to create your own.

As per standard FUDGE, all skills start at Poor.  A character may choose 5 skills to start at Fair, to represent the character's basic upbringing.  These should not be highly specialized skills, but ones that would be typical for people of the time period.  A second language, driving ability, swimming or climbing would be reasonable choices, aircraft piloting or biology would not.  Here is a list of the skills available.  If you have a different one, let me know.

Attribute levels, gifts and skill levels can be traded as shown below:
